Tiseke Kasambala

Tiseke Kasambala has 20 years of experience working in East and Southern Africa on human rights, democracy, and governance. Before joining Freedom House, Tiseke was the Deputy Executive Director and Head of Programs at the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA) where she provided strategic leadership and oversaw the implementation of a multimillion-dollar grants program. Prior to that she worked at Human Rights Watch in various leadership positions including as Southern Africa Director and Africa Advocacy Director. Tiseke is a published author, and her opinion pieces have appeared in numerous local, regional, and international news outlets. She holds a master’s degree in social science from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
