Jerusha Burnham

Jerusha Burnham has fifteen years of experience working in human rights and human rights grantmaking.  She spent six years at the Fund for Global Human Rights, in Washington, DC, as a grants administrator for its programs in Latin America, West Africa, and Asia and Program Officer for its Uganda portfolio.  With the Uganda portfolio, she managed a $300K yearly budget supporting women's, LGBTI, land and environmental, refugee, indigenous, media, and democracy rights Ugandan organizations. 

Jerusha joined Freedom House's Emergency Assistance Program (EAP) in 2012, first as its Latin America portfolio's Regional Specialist. Currently, she serves as one of EAP's Program Managers supervising its nine Regional Specialists' work and working closely with EAP's Director, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, and Digital Security Expert.   Since joining EAP, Jerusha has increased EAP's presence with land, indigenous, women, and Afro-descendant movements.  Jerusha also led EAP's transition to a more efficient grants management database, moving the team to a paperless work environment and allowing the team to process emergency cases more quickly and efficiently.

Born and raised in Mexico, with familial roots in Mexico, Uganda, and the U.S., and currently based in Barcelona, Jerusha is a native Spanish and English speaker and is fluent in Catalan and French with basic knowledge of German. Jerusha is proud to have studied at UC Santa Cruz and American University.
