Camaran Pipes
Director, Asia programs
Camaran Pipes has more than 15 years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing programs focused on democracy, human rights, and governance capacity building and technical assistance. Much of her work has involved civic engagement, peacebuilding, combating violent extremism, and the role of women in peace and security, with related programs in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Prior to joining Freedom House, Camaran worked with the Tides Center, where she managed a grant portfolio engaging civil society organizations throughout Asia to protect, defend, and promote civic space. She previously held positions with Management Systems International, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ Regional Office for Southeast Asia, Equal Access International, and Salam Institute for Peace and Justice. She holds a BA in politics, with honors, from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and an MPA in international management, with a focus in human rights and peacebuilding, from the Monterey Institute for International Studies.
